London house prices:Barking and Dagenham is still the cheapest place to buy despite record growth

The borough of Barking and Dagenham, on the eastern fringes of the capital, has recorded the highest house price growth across the capital during the past 12 months.

According to the latest Land Registry figures, the average cost to buy a home in London has now reached £514,097. Yet annual growth of 15.3 per cent has taken the average cost of buying a home in Barking, Becontree and Dagenham at £309,760, making this the cheapest London borough for buyers to get on the first rung of the property ladder.
